The Importance of Watching Your Sugar this Thanksgiving

While sugar may taste sweet and satisfying, it’s important to watch your intake. Consuming too much sugar can lead to a host of health problems, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and tooth decay. Sugar is also a leading cause of chronic inflammation, which has been linked to a number of serious health conditions.

Around the holidays, it can become difficult to watch your sugar intake with all of the delicious Thanksgiving holiday desserts. Here are some tips to watch how much sugar you are consuming.

  • Try brands like Lotta Products that offer plant-based sweeteners and less than 2g of sugar.
  • Limit sugary drinks like soda and juice.
  • Watch out for hidden sugars in processed foods (i.e., glucose, fructose, molasses, etc.)
  • Eat naturally sweet foods instead of sugary snacks (i.e., fruits or some veggies).
  • Read labels and ingredient lists carefully.
  • When cooking at home, use healthier substitutes for sugar, like honey or maple syrup.
  • Add more fiber to your diet, as it helps slow the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream, which can help prevent spikes in blood sugar levels.

By following these tips, you can help keep your sugar intake in check and improve your overall health this Thanksgiving.
